I just "upgrade" to QuickText 0.9.9.9. I did so by clicking the same Update button I've seen so many other times for other extensions.

Yet, upon restarting Thunderbird, it seems that QuickText is gone completely! It doesn't even appear in the extensions list.

Is this some joke?

Oh well, well... Seems QuickText 0.9.9.9 is stuck in the "\extensions\staged-xpis" directory. How lovely.

There seams to be a problem with upgrading. Just restart Thunderbird and reinstall the extension.

I had the same problem. After deinstalling Quicktext 0.9.7.2 and then installing Quicktext 0.9.9.9 new it went alright!

I simply deleted the "\extensions\staged-xpis" directory and then installed 0.9.9.9. I didn't want to leave that directory behind, not knowing what would happen if I left it and tried installing yet again. It's a temp directory, and should not be there normally.

Incidentally, the old Quicktext rules (whatever the hell you want to call them) settings from prefs.js are no longer used--they have been moved to an XML file.

Hello there,

Well, I tried an update to quicktext-0.9.9 and it doesn't seem to be a good idea. I use a Mac OS X.

I get an error on Thunderbird: Unexpected installation error - Review the JavaScript Console log.

In the log, it says:

Item Uninstalled via file removal from: rel%{8845E3B3-E8FB-40E2-95E9-EC40294818C4} Item ID: {8845E3B3-E8FB-40E2-95E9-EC40294818C4} Location Key: app-profile, uninstalling item.

Does that make any sense to anyone?

Any idea of what I can do (I can't uninstall the extension)

chill: I have mailed you with some questions and suggestion how to fix it.

I found this after having the same "disappearing Quicktext" issue after upgrading. After trying several times, it started working. But now I have this nagging delay when starting Thunderbird that always ends in an "unresponsive script" error message. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this? Might it be related to the "\extensions\staged-xpis" directory that skitstövel pointed out?

Guess what, major confusion since I tried to upgrade to 0.9.9.9. Followed several suggestions of uninstalling (not successful), tried to install 0.9.7.2 over it, uninstalled that (not removed) and installing 0.9.9.9 over it again so now it doesn't show anything in the extension listing relating to quicktext even after installing 0.9.9.9 3 times. Please help me as I loved that extension which made my life easier.

One thing that have worked for some that you can try is:
1. Close Thunderbird
2. Locale your Thunderbird profile folder.
3. In the extensions folder there is a folder called "{8845E3B3-E8FB-40E2-95E9-EC40294818C4}". Backup it and then remove it.
4. In the profile folder there is a file called extensions.cache. Backup it and then remove it.
5. Now start Thunderbird and cross your fingers that everything works.

Thanks, WizKid, for any suggestions. I suspect that you were suggesting support for exiladler with the suggestion to remove files and restart TBird. I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. It didn't work. Do you have any idea what script might be hanging up my e-mail or how to look for it? Refer to my comment above if this doesn't make sense.

robbnicholas: If you check in the Tools -> Javascript Console. Do you get any errors there?
