Hi,
using latest Quicktext, Thunderbird 1.5.0.9 on Ubuntu.
Export creates an xml files but files are not readable as they contain binary characters. Basically every asci char is followed by a binary char.
Here is a sample of file opened in text editor (after editor complained about binary chars):
